Adoption Privacy Rights and Social Media

How many of you use Twitter, Facebook, Instagram or the like? These days it is almost impossible to not have some sort of social media account…it is the way we often stay in touch with those near and far! Social media and adoption privacy rights are certainly a topic of interest for many.

Confidentiality is important to many people in adoption. Not only for the adoptive family, but for birth parents as well. Not everyone wants the public to know his or her business. It is not uncommon for agencies and attorney to have clients sign agreements to not post pictures to social media. How do you feel about this topic? Do you feel comfortable with the birth parents of your child posting pics that you send them? Have you posted photos of your child’s birth parents with you, your child or family? What has been the response you have received from your agency or attorney?

In the end, adoption privacy rights as it relates to all parties involved are important. Everyone has their own definition as to what privacy means to them.

At Connecting Hearts Adoption Services, we take adoption privacy rights seriously and only post photos with our clients express permission and never with identifying information.
