Required Background Checks REQUIRED BACKGROUND CHECKS You will complete LOCAL clearances as well as FINGEPRINTING for your home study. These are not completed at the same location. ANYONE in your home age 12 and older will have to submit to ALL background checks. 1. A local criminal background check from your local Police or Sheriff is required. Make sure that they check your name along with any other last name you may have previously used in the past (i.e. maiden name or last name when previously married). Your prior names must be noted on the clearance, too. Please go to your local law enforcement agency and make this request. There is often a nominal fee that must be paid for this. The results are typically put on their agency letterhead. 2. Fingerprinting is required for all prospective adoptive parents as well as anyone in your home age 12 and older. See directions below as to how your prints will need to be completed. You must use the service we contract with for fingerprinting. Using the online service, go to their site and click on "schedule an appointment." This letter will suffice the requirements of all adoption entities across Florida and the United States. I/We understand that background checks are only valid for one year from the date completed. Therefore, it is best to complete all background checks close to ALL of my paperwork being completed and my home study being finalized. Should there be any reported criminal history, I may be asked to provide police reports and court documents.
